Info on Hongshan Culture:

The Hongshan culture was a Neolithic culture in northeastern China. Hongshan sites have been found in an area stretching from Inner Mongolia to Liaoning and Hebei, and date from +/- 4700 BC to 2900 BC.

The culture is named after Hongshanhou, a site in Hongshan District, Hongshan, Chifeng. The Hongshanhou site was discovered by the Japanese archaeologist Torii Ryuzo in 1908 and extensively excavated in 1935 by Hamada Kosaku and Mizuno Seiichi.

Hongshan burial artifacts include some of the earliest known examples of Chinese jade, mountain crystal, mineral carvings; the Hongshan culture is known for its jade pig dragons and embryo dragons.

Other symbols like figurines, including statues of pregnant or large breasted women (comparable with the African, Indian and Japanese ´fertility´ statues) are also found throughout Hongshan sites. Another quite amazing find were the so called Alien person figures and Alien Cicada figures (standing-up beings but not recognisable as humans, rather cosmic or extra-terrestrial looking figures). These figures are very rare and mostly sought after collector´s items.
