Art Deco Elegant & Impressive Bronze ‘Ankara Dancer’
Art Deco bronze not signed – artist unknown
In 1925, the ‘Exposition Internationale d’Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes’ was held in Paris, from which the artistic movement still known today as Art Déco gets its name.
This is a fantastic quality bronze sculpture of a dancing lady. This large heavy bronze is entitled ‘Ankara Dancer’ and was sculpted in the style of DH Chiparus. Most of Chiparus’ work was heavily influenced in the 1920s by the art of ancient Egypt and the unveiling of King Tutankhamen tomb. You can also see the creativity and the inspiration of the Egyptian art in this piece. She has one knee up, bending her body forwards, holding her head with one hand and lifting a tip of her dress with the other hand. As an extra she has snake crawling around one foot with its head upwards. Seems like a theatrical and dramatical pose.
This is an extremely detailed piece showing the curves of her half naked body, the draping of the multi layered and extensively ornated dress and head wear.
This sculpture was handmade and has a brown patina. It is mounted on an art deco styled conic round black granite base.
✓ Heigth : 44 cm
✓ Width : 21 cm
✓ Granite base: 11cm high – widest size 12 cm
✓ Weight: 5,420 KG ! (full bronze)
Mint condition
