Art Deco Impressive Full Bronze ‘Oriental Dancer’
Art Deco bronze not signed – artist unknown
In 1925, the ‘Exposition Internationale d’Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes’ was held in Paris, from which the artistic movement still known today as Art Déco gets its name.
This is a beautiful quality bronze sculpture of a ‘ballet’ dancing lady. This large heavy bronze is entitled ‘Oriental Dancer’ and was sculpted in the style of DH Chiparus. Most of Chiparus’ work was heavily influenced in the 1920s by the art of ancient Egypt and the unveiling of King Tutankhamen tomb.
This bronze definitely has a link to DH Chiparus’ bronzes, she holds with her two hands the very wide pleated skirt, wearing a top which resembles an ornated body ‘armour’ and wearing a kind of soft tissue kind of helmet head gear.
This is an extremely detailed piece showing the curves of the draped and pleated skirt on the front and reverse side.
This sculpture was handmade and has a medium brown patina. It is mounted on an art deco styled large round black marble base.
✓ Heigth : 53,5 cm
✓ Width : 24,5 cm
✓ Depth : 20 cm
✓ Marble base: 27cm diameter
✓ Weight: 6,230 KG ! (full bronze)
